The season is off and running. After a season opening loss to strong Cumberland Valley Boys and Girls teams the Colts moved on to the Gettysburg Invite. At the invitational both teams improved, with the boys taking 3rd Place honors behind Manhiem Township and CV. Alex McGough and Kelly Allred both had high finishes in the JV Race. After Gettysburg it was on to a home meet against Harrisburg, and victories for both the boys and girls squads.

Some Colt Alumni are running well in college. Tim Johnson, Mike Fulton, and Janelle Young all competed in the Lock Haven Invite this past weekend.

this picture and the article below pretty much sum of the day for the boys. they put it all out on the course and had to. they held off a strong showing by coatesville for a narrow 95-100 victory and accomplishing thier 5th and final goal, State Champions.

Carlisle Sentinel Coverage

On the girls side, although you wouldn't know it by seeing them after the race, it was also a great day. After not qualifying for the state meet last year they finished a very respectable 5th. A first state meet is always a tough one and 6 of the 7 girls were seeing the intensity of this competion first hand for the first time. Front runner Janelle Young, although having a rough day, got out hard and gave it her all holding on for a 20th place finish collection her 3rd individual cross country state medal, the most for anyone in school history. The other girls seemed to have a rough start and struggled to work up through this very talented field. They may not have had the race they hoped for after making great developments to put them in a position to capture a state title if it was their day. To be in that position alone was a great accomplishment, all year critics doubted the strength of these girls, predicting them to finish behind chambersburg in the mid-penn conference and district III. The colts proved that they were the finest breed in the district last week and did so once more saturday by being the top finishing team from Ditrict III. Seniors Caitlin Wood and Katie Topalian will be greatly missed. Underclassmen Kassie Meholick, Jess Shuman, Lauren Tucci and Melanie Sponseller have learned an unmeasurable amount from this race. Add in sophomore Rachael Marchand and the colts have a solid five returning. both boys teams that won state titles did so on their second tries, this girls team looks to follow that pattern.

Both boys and girls squads were the team champions with all seven varstiy runners on both teams finishing in the medals including individual titles for Pat Caulfield and Janelle Young. In JV action it was Megan Butler winning the girls race and Mark Wilde top Sophomore, Steve Howe to Junior and Alex Getty and Joe Buszka going 1-2 for the Senoirs in the Boys Junior Varsity Race.

Cedar Cliff Boys and Girls Complete Undefeated Season

The Colts faced sister school Red Land for their final dual meet of the season and came away with two victories. The boys worked through a strong mid race surge to take a 15-44 victory taking the top 5 places over Red Land Junior Aaron Kauffman, 2004 Cumberland County Meet Champion and predicted district medalist. The front four of Caulfield, Johnson, Fulton and Keller all crossed the line together just under 17:00 for the Colts. Corey Creek continues his fine season with a 5th place finish just a few seconds behind. On the Girls side it was Janelle Young off to her usual front running taking it from the gun and looking strong all along the way. After fighting a tough battle for 2nd with some strong late moves Kassie Meholick had to settle for 3rd behind a strong showing from Red Land's number one Kerri Smith. The colts then filled in the next 3 spots with Katie Topalian, Caitlin Wood and Megan Butler. The victory finishes off the first ever Mid-Penn Conference Championship for the girls. The Colts will be working out on thursday and saturday to prepare for the Mid-Penn Meet on Wednesday October 20th at Carlisle High School starting at 1:00. the race will be a final tune-up race for districts and will crown the Mid-Penn Individual Champions.
